Steps for bundle building
Building a bundle is pretty straightforward. You group products together and let your customers choose what they want to purchase. The products normally relate to one another and there's often an incentive to persuade the customer to buy as many items as possible - be it a discount or a freebie.
The customer purchases the bundle feeling good about their deal and your store increases its average order value! It's a win-win situation.
Although it's a simple concept there are important things to consider; the stages involved in the bundle, conditions customers must follow, products, discounts, design, and even details like shipping.
At Bundle Builder, we know what goes into making the perfect bundle and we've broken the process down into six easily manageable steps. After reading this introduction, just follow and complete the six steps below in sequence.
- Setup
- Products
- Pricing
- Design
- Shipping & Tax
- Conditions
- Activating Cart Integration for Multiple SKU Bundles
But before you start...
Before we begin, let's take a moment to plan ahead. Preparation is key to efficient bundle building and there are a couple of things you should consider before setting one up.
Bundle types
We encourage you to think about which type of bundle makes sense for a) the product mix you want to sell and b) your business circumstances.
One option you will need to decide on is whether you want to create a Single SKU Bundle or a Multiple SKU Bundle. Don't worry if you don't know the differences. Each bundle type has its advantages and disadvantages - and we'll explain it all.
But here's what you should be aware of early on: you cannot change the bundle type after you start building a bundle. If circumstances change or you make a mistake, you can simply start over. So don't worry! As we said at the beginning, a little planning before you start building could save time down the road.

Product set up
Before bundling, we suggest that you complete a bit of admin work:
- Go to the Shopify Products page and make sure you have correctly set up the product details for each item you plan on bundling.
- If your products have variants, make sure they are in place before you bundle. This includes assigning variant images, weights, and shipping costs.
Here's an essential step:
- Make sure the products you bundle do not use a third-party service to house their variants (e.g. Printful). Bundle Builder will not work without access to product information within your Shopify admin.
When variants are set up correctly, these good things happen:
- You have access to accurate store analytics.
- The bundle displays the correct images.
- The products in your bundle are split into separate listings for each variant. (optional)
After you complete all that admin housework, it's time to build a bundle!
