The fifth tab in the bundle creation process, Shipping & Tax, is used for adding shipping fees and applying taxation at the checkout stage.
There are two main settings and three optional information fields on this page, which include:
- Taxation - should tax be charged on the bundle?
- Shipping (single SKUs only) - should shipping charges apply to the bundle?
- The SKU (optional - single SKUs only)
- The vendor (optional)
- The variant prefix (optional)
In this guide, we'll look at how each option affects the shipping and tax of the bundle.
Note: You can return to the bundle at any time and update certain settings. However, you cannot change the 'Taxable' setting after you create a bundle. To get back to these settings later:
Step 1: Go to Bundles.
Step 2: Select the bundle that you would like to edit.
Step 3: Click the Shipping & Tax menu tab.
The easiest way to learn about setting up shipping and tax for your bundle is to view our video! Alternatively, we also have a text guide with screenshots below.
A step-by-step guide
Shipping and tax settings
This page has two options and three (optional) information fields.
Here's a look at each option:
Check the Taxable box to make the bundle eligible for taxation. If enabled, Bundle Builder will automatically calculate the total tax for the bundle when it reaches the checkout stage. This option cannot be changed after you create the bundle.
Important: For single SKU bundles - the tax rate is taken from the bundle "Dummy Product" and not individual products. Click here to scroll down and see how tax is applied.
Requires shipping (displays for single SKU bundles only)
If your single SKU bundle contains physical products that require shipping, then check the Requires shipping box to add shipping costs. If shipping costs don't apply - for example, you sell digital products - then leave this disabled.
When enabled, Bundle Builder will use the default shipping options/charges that you set up in your Shopify Settings section.
Other information fields
You can further customize your settings by adding the following optional bundle information:
- SKU (for Single SKU bundles only): Input the Stock Keeping Unit for the bundle product.
- Vendor: Input the name of the vendor.
- Variant prefix: Change the prefix before the bundle number. This is generally used as a reference number that the customer can quote. For example, if they need to make a return.
Important shipping information
Tax and shipping cost figures are calculated on the basis of your settings on different Shopify pages, so it's important to ensure they are correctly set up.
Note: For more information about shipping and weights, we recommend reading Shopify's help pages. Learn more.
Bundle Builder only supports the default shipping location set within your Shopify admin space. Our development team is looking into adding support for multiple shipping locations. For now, you must limit your bundles to products available at your default shipping location.
You can enable local pickup services by going to your Shipping and delivery settings in Shopify's admin dashboard (optional).
Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery > Local pickup
Note: To find out more about enabling local pick up, click here.
You can enable local delivery services by going to your Shipping and delivery settings in Shopify's admin dashboard (optional).
Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery > Local delivery
Note: To find out more about enabling local delivery, click here.
You can set delivery costs by going to your Shipping and delivery settings in Shopify's admin dashboard.
Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery > Shipping
Note: To find out more about setting and editing shipping rates, click here.
Shipping costs often vary with the weight or package dimensions of the product. Remember to add your product weights on each product page - this will save you time after receiving orders.
Go to Products > select an item > scroll down to Shipping > add the weight
Note: To find out more about setting package and shipment weights, click here.
As long as each product is correctly set up with the correct weight using the instructions above, then Bundle Builder will assign the correct shipping weight at the checkout. There's no need to manually add bundle weights to your dummy product page.
Note: We do not recommend manually adding the weight of the bundle to the dummy product page. This manual addition could result in your bundle weights showing incorrect information.
Applying shipping costs to your bundle
When it comes to shipping costs, Bundle Builder treats Single and Multiple SKUs differently.
Shipping costs for both bundle types appear at the checkout stage. However, the app pulls different kinds of information for each SKU type:
- Single SKU: Bundle Builder applies general (or default) shipping information set in the Shopify store.
- Multiple SKU: Bunder Builder takes into account each profile set at the individual product settings.
Applying tax to your bundle
When it comes to tax, Bundle Builder treats Multiple and Single SKUs differently.
Multiple SKU: The discount is proportionally applied to all products in the bundle. Then the tax is calculated for all taxable products using the rate for the selected products.
Single SKU: This depends on whether the bundle is enabled for taxation (see above):
- If the tax option is enabled, tax is applied to the final discounted price of the Single SKU bundle, no matter if the products in the bundle are themselves taxable or not. The tax rate is taken from the bundle "Dummy Product" and not individual products.
- If the tax option is not enabled, no taxes are applied to the Single SKU bundle, no matter if the products in the bundle are themselves taxable or not.
