Introduction - Conditions
This stage of the bundle creation process involves setting up the Conditions.
This is an optional step, but many merchants do set conditions to gain more control over how customers interact with the bundle. Customers will need to follow the conditions you set to successfully add the bundle to their cart.
How conditions work
What's the purpose of creating conditions?
Conditions let you specify exactly when a bundle becomes eligible to be added to the cart. It's good to be aware that any condition you create on this page will apply to the entire bundle.
What if my bundle has multiple steps?
If you have multiple steps, you can create unique rules for each of those steps via the Products tab. However, rules added to the Products tab only determine a customer's ability to proceed to the next step. Customers must still meet the conditions set on this page to add the finished bundle to their carts.
What happens if I create more than one condition?
When you create more than one condition for a bundle, customers won't be able to purchase the bundle until all conditions have been satisfied.
For example, in the screenshot below, two conditions have been added:
- Bundle price must be greater than or equal to 28
- Total number of products must be greater than or equal to 3
Bundle Builder will ensure the Add bundle to cart button is disabled until the customer's bundle contents satisfy all the specified conditions.
In the example below, only 2 products have been added at a total cost of £21.16. To meet all the conditions to proceed, the customer must add at least 1 more item, and the total cost to at least £28.00.
Setting conditional criteria
By creating conditions, you have the power to decide when your bundle qualifies to be added to the customer's cart. You can set the following requirements:
- Bundle price (before and after discount)
- Total number of products
- Amount of one product
- Number of different products
To set a condition:
Step 1: Click the Add rule button.
Step 2: Select a product/price condition.
Step 3: Select an operator.
Step 4: Enter a quantity.
Step 5: Add more rules. (optional)
Step 6: Click Save.
Key terms
- Bundle price: The price of a bundle after taking discounts into account.
- Bundle price (before discount): The price of a bundle before taking discounts into account.
- Total number of products: The number of items in the bundle.
- Number of different products: Define the minimum or the maximum number of different products that must be in the cart before a purchase can be completed.
- Amount of one product: Set minimum bulk order quantities for every bundle product. It's not possible to target a specific product through this rule. You could also use this rule to limit the maximum quantity that could be purchased in the bundle.
Disable overfilling
When enabled, the Disable overfilling option prevents customers from adding an excessive number of products to their bundles.
When customers reach the defined quantity limit set out in your conditions, Bundle Builder will lock the bundle in - disallowing further additions. As a result, the customer will have only two options: clicking the Add bundle to cart button or reducing the quantity of selected products.
Example:
Overfilling the bundle by adding too many products will disable the Add bundle to cart button - potentially leading to confusion and impacting the bundling experience in some cases.
However, you may wish to leave this option unchecked to give customers more flexibility while they configure their bundle.
Example:
Show bundle limit message
If you choose to enable the Disable overfilling option above, you'll also have the opportunity to show a bundle limit message.
This message will provide customers with more context as to why they can't add more items to their bundle.
Disable section navigation (multiple-step bundles only)
If your bundle contains multiple steps, you will see the Disable section navigation option at the bottom of the page.
When enabled, this setting removes the Next button from bundle pages if the rules for the step haven't been satisfied.
It's important to clarify that this option is only associated with the step rules you configured on the Products tab and not the conditions set on this page. If you didn't add any rules to the Products tab then the Next button will always be visible.
Next steps
Great job on setting up your conditions! Remember, you can come back here at any time and change them. Coming up next, we'll explore the Inventory tab, where you can provide optional information for your Shopify admin.
