How do I add bundles to collections?

There are a few ways of adding bundles into your store, we recommend checking out our complete guide - Displaying bundles in your storefront - if you haven't already.

We recommend manually adding your bundle product to a Manual collection, or creating an Automatic collection that utilizes product tags. In the latter, you would have to assign your bundle's dummy product the correct product tag.


Things to consider for your collections

One way to display a bundle on your store is to add it to a collection. However, there are a few things to be aware of before doing this - primarily due to the app's necessary use of dummy products.

Dummy products act as placeholders for bundles. They are located within the Product section on your Shopify dashboard like any other product.

Due to the app's system of duplicating dummy products, displaying bundles within collections works differently than displaying other products. It's likely you will only want to display one dummy product to represent a bundle and not any duplicates.

Therefore, collections need to be designed in a way where they will still display the dummy product, but filter out any duplicates - and we have some simple solutions for this:

❌ Avoid using the Bundle Builder Products collection.

❌ Avoid displaying the Catalog page on your storefront.

We'll explain each of the above points below.


Avoiding the automatic Bundle Builder Products collection

When you install Bundle Builder, a collection called Bundle Builder Products is created automatically under Products > Collections. This collection helps the app function correctly - but it contains all dummy products and duplicates of dummy products.

Important: By default, this collection will be excluded from your store (applicable to recent installations). However, if it's appearing on your storefront then please continue reading for instructions on manually excluding it.

As mentioned above, we recommend that you avoid displaying the Bundle Builder Products collection on your storefront. If it appears on your storefront, follow these steps to set the availability to Unavailable:

Step 1: Within your Shopify admin dashboard, click Products then proceed to Collections.

Step 2: Select the Bundle Builder Products collection.

Step 3: When the collection page opens, locate Publishing on the right sidebar and click Manage.

Step 4: Deselect the Online Store checkbox option and click Done.

Step 5: Click Save at the top of the screen.

Avoiding the Catalog page

Another way that your bundle products might be displayed on your store is through your Catalog page.

Every store has a Catalog page under the URL: your-store.com/collections/all

Note: Replace your-store with your domain name.

This page displays all visible products on the store, including duplicate dummy products. For this reason, we do not recommend linking your catalog page to your storefront. For example, via the main menu navigation.


Adding new collections

We do recommend you add your dummy products to a new collection for the best results. This way, you will be able to control which bundle products the customer sees, without the risk of duplicate products appearing.

Step 1: Go to Products and proceed to Collections.

Step 2: When the page opens click Create collection.

Step 3: Scroll down to Collection type.

Step 4: You have two choices - either a Manual or Automatic collection type. (See below for more details).

Step 5: Complete the rest of the information fields. I.e. Title, Description, etc.

Step 6: Save your collection.

Note: If you create a new collection to display your bundle, ensure that the Online store sales channel is set to Available (located in the Publishing sidebar section).

Choosing the Manual collection type

Using a Manual collection type is a simple solution for ensuring that duplicate dummy products are not displayed as part of your collection. The reason for this is that each product has to be added to the collection manually, one by one.

If you're creating a large collection, manually handling the addition and management of each product can be a less desirable choice. Therefore, you might prefer to use an automated collection type instead.

Choosing the Automated collection type

Automated collections allow you to set conditions so that only products with specific tags are included. This is ideal for bundles because when dummy products duplicate, they do not carry forward product tags.

Therefore, adding a product tag to your bundle product (via the dummy product page) and adding this tag to your automated collections will act as a filter and prevent untagged duplicates from appearing within the collection.
